There’s a reason Harrison Ford is a superstar in cinema. He’s been in a wide variety of genres like sci-fi, action, thriller, drama, adventure, you name it! He’s perfected it. Although, there is one genre he isn’t known for that well, and that’s romcom. Harrison Ford does, in fact, have a history making them though. His rare trip to the romantic comedy world features this often overlooked gem which is now streaming on Netflix – 2010’s Morning Glory.
Netflix just added the film to its library making it the first time it’s been available to stream since it’s release over a decade ago. It’s probably the reason why the film Morning Glory has gone pretty much forgotten. That 55% Rotten Tomatoes score probably didn’t help either. Still, it’s a great film worth a watch!
Becky Fuller, played by Rachel McAdams, is an ambitious TV producer tasked with an impossible job of saving a fledgeling morning news program. She ends up convincing Ford, who plays Mike Pomeroy, a washed-up news anchor to be co-host and team up with Diane Keaton who plays Colleen Peck. The two hate each other and Pomeroy hates the gig which threatens to tank the entire show. It’s up to Becky to save the day.
Besides Ford’s part in the film, there’s a Star Wars connection in Morning Glory. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production label and his first attempt at comedy make it the first time the duo worked together since the filmmaker got Ford to play Han Solo again in The Force Awakens. The rest of the cast includes Jeff Goldblum, Ty Burrell, and Patrick Wilson. You can watch Morning Glory on Netflix right now.
